MENIFEE: Girl, 8, seriously injured after struck by car while chasing ball into street
MENIFEE — An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was struck by the side of a car after chasing a ball into a street, Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 19. The accident happened in the area of Stillwater and Halcyon Drives, south of Newport Road and west of Menifee Lakes, in the city of Menifee.
Emergency first responders were dispatched to the area about 3:20 p.m., after receiving a 911 call reporting the collision.
Officials arrived at the scene within minutes and found an 8-year-old girl who had collided with a moving car. The victim sustained major, traumatic injuries and was rushed to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant K. Lamb explained after the incident.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Menifee Police Station investigated the cause of the collision.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was driving west on Stillwater Drive when the juvenile ran into the street while chasing a ball and struck the side of the passing vehicle,” said Lamb. “Immediately following the collision, the driver rendered aid to the juvenile until first responders arrived.”
“The driver was not found to have violated any moving violations prior to the collision,” Lamb explained, adding, “At this time, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.”
While officials worked at the scene, deputies called for the temporary closure of Stillwater Drive. The residential street was re-opened about two hours later.
