REDDING: Man, 58, fatally struck by commercial big-rig while walking in traffic on I-5

REDDING — Officials are investigating after a 58-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer semi-truck on Interstate 5 Wednesday evening, Dec. 27. The deadly accident happened near the Cypress Avenue exit in Redding.

California Highway Patrol officials along with City of Redding Police and Fire personnel and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the fatal collision about 8:40 p.m., after other motorists and witnesses called 911 and reported the accident to SHASCOM and CHP emergency dispatchers.

When officials arrived they found the lifeless body of the pedestrian in the number three lane of southbound Interstate 5. The man had sustained major, traumatic injuries and had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead t the scene of the accident.

Officials have not released the man’s name, pending further investigation and notification of the victim’s family.

While officers investigated the fatal accident they called for the temporary closure of the number three southbound lane of the freeway, to ensure the safety of officials at the scene.

CHP officials are still investigating the cause of the collision, including why the pedestrian was walking within lanes of traffic on the freeway just before he was struck and killed.

Neither alcohol nor drug impairment are considered to be contributing factors regarding the driver of the commercial vehicle. Toxicology results are still pending for the deceased pedestrian.

Trevor has been married for more than 27 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 14 grandchildren.
