REDDING: Man who fled home during burglary arrested after returning to confront homeowner

REDDING — A career criminal, who has been arrested in Shasta County thirty-two times since 2009 and was out of jail on probation for possession of a controlled substance, was arrested again Friday afternoon, Jan. 5. The man was arrested after allegedly confronting a woman while burglarizing her residence and returning hours later with a metal pipe to confront the homeowner for refusing to leave “his” home and property.

The home invasion robbery happened at a private residence on Greenstone Place, south of Highway 299 and east of Buenaventura Boulevard, in Redding.

After an investigation, officers arrested Shadoe Rivers Sanders, 28, of Redding, Redding Police Sergeant Brian Cole explained after the incident and arrest.

According to Cole, Sanders had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and was later booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of home invasion robbery and residential burglary as well as his warrants.

The investigation began shortly after 1 p.m., when Redding police officers were dispatched to the residence after the homeowner found an unknown man, later identified as Sanders, inside her home.

During a subsequent investigation, officers determined Sanders had gained access to the home after “bypassing an outer security gate and entering the home through a garage door,” Cole explained.

After entering the home the suspect confronted the frightened homeowner and claimed the house belonged to him. Sanders then stole property from the home and fled the area.

Investigating officers searched the neighborhood and surrounding green belt area; however, they were not successful in locating Sanders at that time.

About two hours later an officer, who was returning to the victim’s home to obtain additional details from the victim, spotted a man matching Sanders’ description walking back up the victim’s street. The officer saw the man was carrying a large metal pipe and detained him for further investigation, according to Cole.

Sanders later admitted “going into the woman’s home earlier in the day and taking property,” said Cole. “He believed that the home belonged to him and he was returning to confront the woman and force her to leave.”

Fortunately for the victim, officers found and arrested Sanders before he made it back to the victim’s residence with the metal pipe.

An online jail records search revealed Sanders remains in custody and is being held without bail.
