BURNEY: Sheriff’s K-9 helps nab man with three warrants who fled from deputies
BURNEY — A man with multiple outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant for a weapons violation fled from a deputy who happened to spot him and was eventually captured with assistance from a Sheriff’s K-9, Friday morning, Jan. 5.
After being apprehended, Burney resident Corey J. Murphy was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding for his three active warrants and resisting arrest, Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy Estes explained after the incident and arrest.
The incident began just after 8:30 a.m., when a deputy from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Burney Station spotted Murphy near the intersection of Cypress Avenue and Hudson Street in Burney.
When the deputy attempted to contact Murphy he fled on foot and attempted to elude the deputy, who gave chase and requested assistance from other law enforcement officers in the area.
Despite his effort to elude capture, Corey was apprehended “a short distance away” with the assistance of Shasta County K-9 Blitz, where he was arrested.
