HEMET: Man hospitalized after plowing into parked truck, tree
HEMET — A man was hospitalized after smashing into a parked pickup truck and tree, Thursday morning, Jan. 25. The accident happened just south of the intersection of S. Buena Vista Street and E. Whittier Avenue in Hemet.
City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments along with American Medical Response medics were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident about 8:45 a.m., after receiving a 911 call from a person reporting the crash.
When officials arrived they found a black Honda Civic coupe that had plowed into a grey Chevy Colorado and a tree just before the intersection. The impact had propelled the pickup truck more than 20 feet forward from where it had been parked.
The Honda sustained major, front-end damage and the truck sustained minor, rear-end damage.
A man who had been driving the car was evaluated and treated at the scene before AMR medics transported him to Hemet Valley Hospital for further follow-up and treatment. The nature and extent of the victim’s injuries were not known.
Police officials who investigated the cause of the wreck determined the driver, who was not identified, was traveling northbound on S. Buena Vista Street approaching E. Whittier Avenue. Just before the car entered the intersection the driver swerved to the right, running into the truck and tree.
Although the posted speed limit in the residential neighborhood is 35 mph, officials are still working to determine how fast the car was traveling and why the driver swerved. Their investigation is ongoing.
