CORONA: Man arrested at his home after allegedly stabbing 67-year-old victim

CORONA — A man who officials allege stabbed another man at a Corona home was later arrested the same day of the attempted murder. The stabbing happened Tuesday morning, Jan. 23, at a residence on the 1000 block of East Third Street, east of E. Grand Boulevard and south of the 91 freeway.

After an investigation, City of Corona police officers arrested Miguel Angel Flores, 30, of Corona. He was later booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder with malice and a prior state prison enhancement. He remains in custody, held on $1 million bail and is next scheduled to be seen at Riverside Hall of Justice, Feb. 5.

Corona PD officers and other emergency first responders were dispatched to Flores’ home about 7:30 a.m., after emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from the residence.

The call came from a person reporting that another man who also lives at the East Third Street residence “had been stabbed and was bleeding profusely from his injuries,” Corona PD Sr. Detective Andy Bryant explained after Flores’ arrest.

Before officers arrived at the home, the 67-year-old victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Because the victim suffered serious injuries in the attack he was later transferred to an area trauma center for further evaluation and treatment, according to Bryant. He is currently listed in stable condition.

The victim later provided a statement to investigators, which lead officials to conclude Flores was possibly responsible for the stabbing and attempted murder.

Based on the information they obtained, detectives served a search warrant at Flores’ home, where they recovered a number items of evidentiary value. Those items, which officials did not describe or specify, will be analysed for evidence related to the stabbing.

Detectives eventually interviewed Flores regarding the near-fatal stabbing. Although Flores and the man he allegedly stabbed live at the same residence they are not related, according to Bryant and the motive for the stabbing is still under investigation.

Detectives later arrested Flores at his E. Third Street home.
