BREAKING: EAST HEMET: Officials investigating after woman hit by vehicle

EAST HEMET — Details are still emerging after a woman was reportedly struck by a vehicle in the area of El Nita Lane and S. San Jacinto Avenue, in the unincorporated community of East Hemet.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire as well as City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the vehicle versus pedestrian collision about 11:15 p.m., after the victim called 911 to report that she was “run down” by a car.

Official radio traffic at the time indicated the victim called 911 screaming for help and saying she was dying. Moments later the phone went silent. Officials who arrived within minutes of the dispatched call discovered witnesses had already rushed the victim to Hemet Valley Hospital. The victim’s current condition is not yet known.

It was not immediately known if the vehicle that struck the victim remained at the scene or if the driver was cooperating with the investigation, which will be handled either by California Highway Patrol or Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, depending on whether the incident was criminal in nature.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
