UPDATED: JURUPA VALLEY: Riverside man killed after car rolled multiple times ID’d

JURUPA VALLEY — Officials say excessive speed was a contributing factor in a solo-vehicle, rollover traffic collision that ended the life of a Riverside resident early Tuesday morning, Feb. 20. The fatal wreck happened on Limonite Avenue, just west of Pats Ranch Road, in Jurupa Valley.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s officials later identified 35-year-old, Anthony Fox, as the man killed in the crash. According to a coroner’s release, Fox died at Riverside Community Hospital about six hours after the deadly crash and he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 7:12 a.m.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the wreck minutes before 1 a.m., after receiving a 911 call reporting a major-injury crash, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Raemie Wood explained after the deadly wreck.

When they arrived, officials found a silver sedan that had rolled several times and come to rest on its roof.

According to witnesses at the scene, the vehicle plowed into a traffic signal pole and rolled multiple times, destroying a fence as it overturned. The front, driver’s side of the sedan and left, front wheel were sheared off – leaving vehicle parts and debris, shattered glass, and personal items, including a men’s pair of prescription glasses, strewn across the roadway.

Officials quickly determined the driver and sole occupant of the barely recognizable car, who was later identified as Fox, was unconscious and trapped inside the mangled wreckage of the car.

While deputies began investigating the cause of the crash, firefighters set up specialized gear and hydraulic equipment – including the “Jaws of Life” – necessary to conduct an extensive extrication. Firefighters eventually used air bags to lift the car off its crumpled roof, at which time they managed to extricate Fox through the sedan’s rear window.

After firefighter’s successfully pulled Fox from the destroyed car AMR medics transported him with major injuries to RCH, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Based on the circumstances, Jurupa Valley PD’s Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Their preliminary investigation revealed Fox was traveling westbound at a “high rate of speed” on Limonite Avenue passing Pats Ranch Road when he “collided with a curb causing the vehicle to flip over and roll multiple times,” Wood explained.

Pending toxicology results, it is not yet known if alcohol and/or drug impairment were contributing factors in the fatal crash and the Sheriff’s investigation is active and ongoing.
