Deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station were dispatched to the 27000 block of Auburn Lane, about 9:20 p.m., after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Brosch explained in a written press release.
“When officers arrived, they found two adult males deceased on the street,” wrote Brosche.
Deputies immediately established a crime scene within the residential neighborhood, cordoning off the “L” intersection of Auburn Lane and Green Lawn Drive, northeast of Moreno Beach and John F. Kennedy Drives.
Based on the circumstances, investigators from the Moreno Valley Police Department and Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.
Within hours, the neighborhood was swarming with officials investigating the shooting. A Sheriff’s mobile command center was soon brought to the scene and throughout the remainder of the evening and into the next day, deputies and investigators were seen going door to door, seeking witnesses and information about the deadly incident.
Technicians from the Department’s Forensic Services Bureau and other officials were seen documenting, photographing and collecting evidence and coroner’s officials later responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation, with officials remaining at the scene well into Friday afternoon.
“The names of the decedents are being withheld pending identification and notification of the next of kin,” said Brosche, who explained the investigation is ongoing and no further information would be released at this time.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation or who witnessed the deadly shooting is encouraged to contact Investigator Bishop with the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777 or INvestigator Vasquez with the Moreno Valley Police Department at (951) 486-6700. Callers can refer to incident file number MV181160526 and can remain anonymous. Citizens may also submit a tip using the Sheriff’s Homicide Tipline online form.
