On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at approximately 12:33 AM, officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to a single vehicle traffic collision in the 72000 block of Frank Sinatra Dr., Rancho Mirage. It was determined the driver, Nicole Tamez, 20 years of Palm Desert, was travelling Westbound on Frank Sinatra Dr. and ran off the roadway at Bob Hope Dr. Tamez did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision, but during the investigation it was determined that Tamez showed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. Tamez was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. Once treated, she was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

DUI Checkpoint Nets 0 DUI ArrestsPalm Desert, CA – Palm Desert Police Department’s Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on May 5, 2018, at Highway 111 and Deep Canyon Road, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public. In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes. The Palm Desert Police Department supports the new effort from the Office of Traffic Safety that aims to educate all drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI. Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.

DUI Saturation Patrol Nets 1 Arrest
Perris, CA – Perris Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI Saturation Patrol on Saturday, 05/05/18, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. High Visibility Enforcement efforts like this have a deterrent effect, lowering the incidents of impaired driving, and impaired related traffic collisions.
This DUI saturation patrol resulted in the following:
- 17 Vehicle enforcement stops
- 1 Arrest
- 13 Citations issued for unsafe driving violations
- 1 Vehicle towed
Tairy Colonoyola
During the saturation patrol, one driver, identified as Moreno Valley resident, Tairy Colonoyola, 28, was stopped for driving over 75 m.p.h. on Perris Boulevard. Colonoyola had her two small children in the car and was under the influence of alcohol. Colonoyola was arrested and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on child endangerment and other misdemeanor charges. Child Protective Services responded and took custody of the children.
Perris PD will be conducting another DUI saturation patrol in the near future in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.

On Friday, May 4, 2018, at approximately 10:56 PM, officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to a single vehicle traffic collision in the 45-000 block of Hwy. 74, Palm Desert. It was determined the driver, Jody Pope, 47 years of Hemet, was travelling northbound on Hwy. 74 and collided with the curb. Pope did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision, but the passenger in his vehicle did sustain minor injuries. During the investigation, it was determined Pope showed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. The passenger declined medical assistance at the scene of the collision. Pope was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, and he was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. Once treated, he was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

On Friday, May 4, 2018, Officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department’s School Resource Unit, in a collaborative effort with the Moreno Valley Unified School District, Juvenile Probation, and the Youth Accountability Team (YAT), conducted a city wide daytime curfew enforcement between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. The Officers patrolled the city of Moreno Valley in search of juvenile students who either failed to report to their assigned campus at the start of the school day or left their campuses without permission while school was in session. Both of these actions constitute a violation of Moreno Valley City Ordinance 11.05.030.
During the course of the enforcement, Officers located and detained 11 violators. The students were transported to their assigned school for disciplinary proceedings and issued a citation to appear in court.
A truant student is defined by section 48260 (a) of the California Education Code as a pupil subject to compulsory full-time education or to compulsory continuation education who is absent from school without a valid excuse three full days in one school year or tardy or absent for more than a 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof. It should be noted, parents and/or guardians of students who have been reported as truant three or more times within a school year may be charged with a misdemeanor under California Penal Code section 270.1.
The goal of this program was to take a pro-active approach toward student daytime curfew/truant violations and emphasize the importance of school attendance and how it correlates with student success in the future. The youth in the community need to be aware that school attendance is important, and they need to be in school. Future operations of this type are planned.

On Friday, April 20, 2018 about 2:00 p.m., an officer assigned to the Lake Elsinore Police Department responded to the LA Fitness gym reference a theft investigation. The victim reported a loss of personal property from his locker within the facility. A list of stolen property, to include a laptop computer, wedding band and gift cards from Costco were among other items stolen. At the time of the initial investigation, no suspect leads were developed.
On April 30, 2018, an investigator working patrol was dispatched to a follow-up investigation where the victim of the theft was reporting his stolen Costco gift cards were used at the Costco store in Lake Elsinore. The investigator obtained surveillance video of the suspect and developed other investigative leads. An “Attempt to Identify” flyer was generated and presented to staff at LA Fitness.
On May 3, 2018, the investigator received a call from a manager at LA Fitness advising a member of the club recognized the suspect and observed the suspect currently inside LA Fitness. This club member observed the suspect open lockers inside the men’s locker room and remove a wallet from a locker. With the assistance of club employees, the suspect was detained. A uniformed officer responded to LA Fitness and detained the suspect.
The suspect was transported to the Lake Elsinore Police Station for further investigation. Subsequently, search warrants were served in San Jacinto and Lake Elsinore. The initial victim’s laptop computer was recovered, along with 15 men’s watches, and 10 high value men’s wallets. Property belonging to another victim was recovered, who stated his property was stolen from a locker in a LA Fitness gym in Oceanside, California. Other property was also recovered.
The suspect, identified as Brandan Morales Rodriguez, 29- years old and a resident of Lake Elsinore was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on charges of Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property.

On 5/1/18, a Temecula resident reported that his 2006 Chrysler 300 had been stolen from the 42200 block of Main Street in the City of Temecula. The key to the vehicle had inadvertently been left in the vehicle by the victim.
A short time after the victim realized his vehicle had been stolen, he was notified that an unknown person was attempting to use his credit card at a nearby retail business. The investigating officers responded to the business and retrieved video images of the person attempting to purchase goods using the victims credit card. The images were relayed to the Temecula Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) and the person was identified as Joshua Pruitt, 28 years from Temecula.
The Temecula Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation and began tracking down leads. The investigation revealed that the victim’s vehicle was stolen on 5/1/18 by Rudolfo Villasenor (20 years from Temecula). After taking the vehicle, Villasenor drove to a local Motel within the city of Temecula and met up with Indira Sanchez (22 years from Temecula), Joshua Pruitt and a third male. Pruitt removed the victims credit cards from the vehicle while Sanchez and Villasenor maintained possession of the stolen vehicle. Within a short time, Pruitt attempted to use the stolen credit card to buy items at a nearby store; however, the sale was declined. Pruitt fled from the business and discarded the victim’s credit cards.
Villasenor and Sanchez maintained possession of the victim’s vehicle until Sanchez was observed parking the car at a nearby shopping center. The vehicle was located and recovered by Temecula Police Department Patrol officers in the late evening hours of 5/1/18. On 5/2/18, Villasenor and Sanchez were located and arrested without incident by members of the Special Enforcement Team. A second stolen Chrysler 300 was located and recovered at a nearby apartment complex. The vehicle had been stolen from a business parking lot within the City of Temecula, on 5/1/18, by Rudolfo Villasenor.
Rudolfo Villa Senor, Indira Sanchez and Joshua Pruitt were all arrested and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on the following charges:
Rudolfo Villasenor– Two (2) counts of Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Residential Burglary, (1) Active Misdemeanor Warrant.
Indira Sanchez – Possession of Stolen Property, Under the Influence of Methamphetamine, (1) Active Misdemeanor Warrant.
Joshua Pruitt – Identity Theft, Commercial Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Violation of Probation.

Frederick Kinzenbaw Jr.
On 5/3/18, members of the Temecula Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) conducted follow-up investigation at a 5 acre property in the 59700 block of Grandon Road, unincorporated area of Anza. The SET officers went to the property in order to conduct a probation check onFrederick Kinzenbaw Jr. (47 years from Anza). Kinzenbaw Jr. is the father of Broderick Kinzenbaw and Brentin Kinzenbaw who were previously arrested in connection with multiple residential burglaries.
While at the location, SET officers located a stolen travel trailer on the property. The travel trailer was reported stolen from the unincorporated area of Hemet in April of 2017. In addition to the stolen travel trailer, a shotgun, ammunition and stolen property from one of the residential burglary investigations was located and recovered. Kinzenbaw Jr. is a convicted felon who is not allowed to be in possession of either firearms or ammunition.
Kinzenbaw Jr. later arrived at the property and was arrested without incident. A stolen firearm taken during one of the residential burglaries was also located and recovered. Kinzenbaw Jr. was later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for: Ex-Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Stolen Property.

In March of 2018, multiple residential burglaries occurred within the unincorporated area of Riverside County known as Anza. During one of the burglaries, multiple firearms and a large amount of U.S. currency was stolen from a residence.
On April 6th, 2018, officers from the Temecula Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team contacted and arrested Broderick Kinzenbaw (9/7/94) and Alyssa Gervais (2/27/96), both from Anza, for outstanding arrest warrants. At the time of the arrest, Broderick and Alyssa were located at a Temecula motel and were found to be in possession of a large amount of U.S. currency and personal property that was later linked to one of the residential burglary victims. Broderick was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on his outstanding felony arrest warrant, while Alyssa was cited and released for her misdemeanor arrest warrants.
While conducting follow-up investigation, officers from the Special Enforcement Team were able to identify multiple residential burglary victims and connect Broederick Kinzenbaw and Alyssa Gervais to the crimes.
On April 13th, 2018, Alyssa Gervais and Brenten Kinzenbaw (11/26/97 – Broderick’s brother) were contacted and detained at a motel within the City of San Jacinto. Brenten Kinzenbaw was observed arriving at the location in a vehicle, which had been reported stolen in the City of Moreno Valley on April 12th , 2018. Inside of the stolen vehicle, officers located and recovered multiple firearms and ammunition which had been stolen during the Anza area residential burglaries.
Both Brenten Kinzenbaw and Alyssa Gervais were booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on the listed charges:
Alyssa Gervais – Residential Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine.
Brenten Kinzenbaw – Possession of Stolen Property (Vehicle), Possession of Stolen Property (Firearms), Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Ex-Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Methamphetamine.

Officers from the Perris Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Perris Blvd. and Mildred St, in the city of Perris. Gilberto Espericueta, 28-year-old from Perris, was travelling west on Mildred St., when he failed to stop for a red light and collided with a vehicle travelling north on Perris Blvd. Espericueta and the driver of the other vehicle were injured and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. Espericueta was found to be driving on a suspended license for DUI. Espericueta received a medical clearance at a local hospital before being booked for Felony DUI at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

On May 3, 2018, at approximately 6:21 p.m., Coachella Police Officers responded to the 48000 block of Harrison Street in Coachella reference a stolen vehicle. The victim advised she found her stolen vehicle and was observing a male pumping fuel into the car. The victim remained on the phone with dispatch, keeping responding officers abreast of the suspect’s actions. As units arrived, the suspect drove-off in the stolen 2013 Kia Optima. Officers quickly got behind the stolen vehicle and conducted a felony stop. Arrested was the driver, and sole occupant, Jose Beltran Lemus, 26 years old of Coachella. The vehicle was returned to the victim and Lemus was booked into the jail in Indio for possession of a stolen vehicle.

On May 3, 2018, a Riverside County Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Hemet Station investigated a reported burglary. The victim reported sometime between March 21 through March 26, 2018, their residence was burglarized. The report was forwarded to the investigative unit, and the unit’s crime analyst was able to identify a potential suspect. On May 3, 2018, Hemet Sheriff’s Station Investigators served a search warrant in the 1200 block of South Buena Vista Street, located in the city of Hemet. Robert Daniel Mendoza, 36 years old and a Hemet resident, was arrested for the residential burglary.
Items from the initial burglary were recovered and returned to victim. There are still 15 gold Kuggerands and 50 silver coins with a total value of $25,000.00 unaccounted for. The suspect was ultimately booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for burglary and possession of stolen property. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind residents to take photos and record identifying numbers of their valuable property for identification, should an incident like this occur. On Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 4:10 P.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force was conducting proactive patrol in the City of Coachella. Task Force Officers located an occupied stolen vehicle parked near the 52000 block of Tripoli Way. They arrested Carlos Tapia, 38 of Coachella for vehicle theft, vehicle theft with priors and violation of probation. Tapia was booked at the Indio Jail.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 1:54PM, Perris Station Deputies were dispatched to a residence situated in the 31000 block of Allen Avenue, Homeland, CA after receiving a 911 call for help. When deputies arrived, they located 40-year old Richard Anthony Lopez suffering from gunshot wounds. They also contacted a 34-year old female at the residence who suffering from numerous injuries to her head and face. Lopez was provided First Aid and transported to Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar for professional medical treatment. Paramedics also administered first aid to the female, but she declined additional medical treatment at the time.
Perris Station investigators deployed to the scene and acquired evidence and statements to determine what had occurred. The female was subsequently transported to the Perris Station and interviewed. Several hours later, Lopez was released from the hospital and transported to the station for further investigation.
The investigation revealed Lopez and the female were involved in an on-again/off-again relationship. Today, Lopez arrived at the female’s residence unannounced and uninvited. While there, Lopez beat the female and brandished a firearm as he threatened to kill her.
At some point during the altercation, Lopez set the firearm down. The female quickly grabbed the gun to defend herself and ordered Lopez to leave her house. Lopez refused to do so and attempted to assault her again. The female discharged several rounds from the firearm, striking Lopez in the process.
After Lopez was interviewed, he was transported to the Cois Byrd Detention Center to be booked for Attempted Murder, Domestic Violence, Criminal Threats and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Bail was set at $1,000,000.00.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force conducted a suppression patrol in Desert Hot Springs. The operation was carried out with the assistance of Gang Task Force Regions 2 and 4 to combat recent gang crime in the city. During the operation Gang Task Force Officers arrested seven subjects for various offenses including vehicle theft, possession of narcotics for sales and possession of brass knuckles. The following subjects were booked at Larry Smith Detention Center in Banning:

- Cassey Fite, 27 of Desert Hot Springs arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales and Violation of Parole.

On 05/01/18, officers from the Temecula Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team observed two males inside of a parked vehicle in the 26600 block of Ynez Road. The vehicle was backed into a parking stall and the males were being approached by multiple individuals. As the officers observed the activity, they noticed what appeared to be hand to hand transactions occurring between the male seated in the driver’s seat and approaching buyers. The buyers arrived in separate vehicles, parked nearby and approached the vehicle on foot in order to make the transactions.
After a short time, members from the Temecula Special Enforcement Team approached the vehicle and contacted, Ryan Thomas Mayfield (35 years from Murrieta, Ca.) and a male passenger. Mayfield was acting nervous and initially gave the officers a false name and date of birth. Eventually, Mayfield was identified and it was discovered that he had two (2) active felony warrants for his arrest. Both warrants were related to charges of possessing illegal drugs for sale.
During a search of the vehicle, officer located, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Along with the illegal drugs, more than 20 hypodermic syringes, packaging and a digital scale for weighing the drugs was also located.
The male passenger was cleared of any involvement and released at the scene. Mayfield was later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for his outstanding warrants and for being in possession of illegal drugs for sale, possession of illegal drug paraphernalia, violation of probation, and providing false information to the police.

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, Jurupa Valley Police Officers conducted zero tolerance enforcement activities in an effort to combat illegal street racing, sideshows, reckless driving and other related traffic offenses. A marked increase in street racing related activity has been noted at several locations throughout the city in recent months, jeopardizing the public as well as the participants themselves.
During the enforcement operation, officers responded to multiple reports of vehicles and pedestrians congregating in the area of Harrel Street and Wineville Avenue, Jurupa Valley. Upon the arrival of officers, several vehicles were observed driving recklessly in close proximity to spectators and deploying illegal fireworks.
The following person was detained and arrested for driving a vehicle without a license and his vehicle towed pursuant to the vehicle code violation.

The San Jacinto Police Department supports the new effort from the Office of Traffic Safety that aims to educate all drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI.
Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.

On May 4, 2018, at 12:09 a.m., officers from the Perris Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence on the 1400 block of Sweet Bay Drive, Perris. Officers arrived within minutes and were directed by neighbors to an adult male lying on the floor of his open garage. The victim; identified as 37-year-old, Raul Carbajal, suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
While at the scene, officers were advised the suspect was an adult male neighbor who fled the area in his vehicle. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old, Alexander Aguayo, was located nearby and stopped and detained by additional Perris officers.
Based on the circumstances, investigators from the Perris Police Department and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation which led to the arrest of Alexander Aguayo, for murder. He was transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he is held on $1,000,000 bail. On Friday, April 27th, about 11:30 AM, members of the Region 7 Regional Gang Task Force conducted a traffic enforcement stop in an alley near Mission Boulevard and Fort Drive in Jurupa Valley. Task Force officers contacted the driver, identified as 37-year old Jurupa Valley resident, Dennis Leon Yniguez, who was on supervised release in San Bernardino County and wearing a GPS ankle monitoring device. Task Force officers determined Yniguez was in possession of methamphetamine and an active participant of a criminal street gang. Further investigation revealed Yniguez discarded a stolen firearm from the vehicle just prior to the enforcement stop. The firearm was previously reported stolen from a residential burglary that occurred in Jurupa Valley in 2013. Yniguez was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the following charges:
- Gang member in possession of an unregistered and stolen firearm
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Felony out of county no bail warrant

Fatal Traffic Collision, Vehicle vs. Pedestrian
Perris, CA – Officers from the Perris Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Perris Blvd and Walnut St, in the city of Perris. The preliminary investigation showed a motorist, a 74-year-old resident of Grand Terrace, was travelling eastbound on Walnut St and came to a stop at the intersection of Perris Blvd. The motorist attempted to cross traffic and drive northbound on Perris Blvd when he was struck by a motorist travelling southbound Perris Blvd. The 74-year-old driver sustained major injuries, was transported to a local hospital, and died from his injuries. The motorist travelling southbound was identified as a 20-year-old resident of Perris, who sustained minor injuries. Both drivers were not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Perris Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The southbound lanes of Perris Blvd were closed temporarily during this investigation and re-opened to traffic at 9:08 pm.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 27 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 14 grandchildren.
