MORENO VALLEY: 86-year-old suffers “severe injuries” during incident involving family member

MORENO VALLEY — An 86-year-old man was seriously injured during a violent encounter with a family member early Wednesday evening, May 30, according to officials. The alleged suspect was detained at the scene by witnesses and later arrested. The incident happened in the area of Nason St. and Alessandro Blvd. in Moreno Valley.

After an initial investigation authorities arrested 40-year-old, Alvaro Gutierrez, of Santa Ana. He was later booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse, and resisting arrest. He remains in custody, held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall Of Justice, June 5.

Deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Police Department and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the area shortly before 6:30 p.m., after several residents called 911 to report an injured man who was lying in the street, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sergeant Gil Gonzalez explained after Gutierrez’ arrest.

When officials arrived they found an 86-year-old, Hispanic man down in the roadway with severe injuries. Deputies also found Gutierrez, who was being detained at the scene by witnesses and area residents, according to Gonzalez.

The investigation revealed the victim, whose name has not been released, was assaulted by a family member. Officials have not specified the nature or extent of the elderly man’s injuries and his current condition is unknown. Officials also have not specified how the victim and suspect are related or what led to the violent encounter.

Moreno Valley PD’s investigation is active and ongoing.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 27 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 14 – soon to be 15 – grandchildren.
