WILDOMAR: Four injured, one arrested, after drug-related, head-on, hit and run crash
WILDOMAR — A Wildomar resident was injured and later arrested after a head-on, hit and run collision that injured three other people, one seriously, Friday afternoon, June 15. The crash happened on Baxter Road near Central Street in Wildomar.
Albert Anthony Sanchez, 39, of Wildomar, was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs – causing major injuries to others, and hit and run, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant James Woodland said after Sanchez’ arrest.
After receiving medical treatment for his injuries, Sanchez was booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center. He was released the morning after his arrest after posting $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at Murrieta’s Southwest Justice Center, Aug 13.

Deputies assigned to the Wildomar Police Department, Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters, and AMR medics responded to a report of a head-on collision just after 2 p.m., after one of the involved motorists called 911 to report the crash.
When they arrived, officials located a white Hyundai SUV and light-colored Toyota SUV that had collided head-on.
The Hyundai was overturned and on its passenger side along the dirt shoulder and partially blocking the roadway. The Toyota was on its wheels, stopped diagonally across Baxter Rd., blocking both directions of travel.
Both vehicles had sustained heavy front-end damage. Both were un-drivable and later towed from the scene.
While firefighter/paramedics treated three victims injured in the crash, deputies began investigating the cause of the collision.
“One passenger of the Toyota SUV, a 41-year-old Baldwin Park man, was seriously injured as a result of the collision and transported to a local area hospital,” Woodland explained. “The driver of the Hyundai, as well as an additional passenger in the Toyota, were also transported to a local area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.”
Woodland did not specify the circumstances regarding the hit and run allegation against Sanchez, who was reportedly driving the Toyota at the time of the crash, or where the man was located before being transported to a hospital and later arrested. However, jail records indicate Sanchez was arrested about an hour and a half after the wreck, at 3:20 p.m., a short distance from where the accident happened near Baxter Rd and the I-15 Freeway.
Based on the circumstances, Lake Elsinore PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and conducted a “full investigation to determine the cause of the collision,” explained Woodland.
During their initial on-scene investigation officials closed Baxter between I-15 and Central St., and the roadway remained closed for about five hours.
The sheriff’s investigation is ongoing.
