MURRIETA: Discover all your city’s parks have to offer during National Park and Recreation Month

MURRIETA — When people think of parks they often envision playgrounds, recreation centers, sports leagues, summer camps, and children at play. But parks and recreation is so much more than that.

With many Murrieta parks featuring running, hiking, biking and walking trails; senior programs, innovative health and wellness opportunities, community celebrations, outdoor recreation, habitat conservation, maintenance, and more, July is the perfect month for residents to get out and discover everything the City’s parks have to offer.

Although America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month since 1985, a recent study conducted for the National Recreation and Park Association found that three in 10 U.S. adults do not spend time outdoors on a daily basis. This year’s NRPA “Out is In” campaign seeks to change that.

Recognizing the importance of community parks and recreational areas and the role they play as a contributing environmental indicator for better health and physical activity, this July, the NRPA is challenging children and adults of all ages to get outdoors and get healthy.

To celebrate this year’s Park and Recreation Month, the City of Murrieta is challenging its residents to “Discover our Parks” and explore the countless beneficial aspects of local parks and recreation.

Once a week throughout the month of July, area residents will have the opportunity to “discover” a new park each Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Every week a different, undisclosed park will be chosen and residents will be given the opportunity to win prizes, participate in games and giveaways, meet their neighbors and make new friends, and enjoy tasty treats.

How will you know which park is to be featured each week? That is up to you to follow the Murrieta Community Services District on Facebook where you can obtain clues about which park is chosen each week by answering posted questions correctly.

To add fun to this year’s event Parks and Recreation related prizes will be awarded to those who find each week’s featured park first.

So, redefine how you think about your local parks and recreation programs and uncover a lifetime of discovery!
