According to APD officials, a clerical employee with the department spotted a man, later identified as Cody Dale Jenkins, 31, of Anderson, inside the department’s trash dumpster while walking out to her vehicle around 5 p.m.
Officers were summoned and found Jenkins in the dumpster. When officials asked Jenkins what he was looking for, he said he was “looking for cool stuff.”
While speaking with Jenkins, officers conducted a records check, which revealed the dumpster diver was on felony probation out of Shasta County for burglary and that he had two active warrants for his arrest.
During a subsequent search based on the terms of Jenkins’ probation status, officers discovered the probationer was in possession of methamphetamine and a meth pipe.
“Jenkins was advised that we no longer keep the ‘cool stuff’ in the dumpster, and that if he wanted to turn himself in he could have just walked to the lobby door,” APD later explained in a social media release.
Based on their investigation officers arrested Jenkins for his warrants, as well as a felony probation violation and drug-related charges.
