Two injured after Jurupa Valley major-injury crash

JURUPA VALLEY — Two people were injured, including one who was hospitalized with serious injuries, after a two-vehicle traffic collision in Jurupa Valley Sunday morning, March 10. Limonite Ave. has been the site of numerous recent major injury and fatal collisions. Many area residents have claimed the popular street is exceedingly dangerous and have called for City officials to look into how they can curb the number of accidents that have happened there.

One of those accidents last May claimed the lives of a 56-year-old grandmother and her 8-year-old grand-daughter. More recently, a sheriff’s deputy was injured in a collision with a passenger vehicle last month that sent the deputy and another driver to the hospital. Deputies assigned to Jurupa Valley Police Department, along with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire, AMR, and other emergency personnel, responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 a.m., after receiving reports of a two- vehicle, “T-Bone” traffic collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Raemie Wood said after the crash.

When officials arrived they found two vehicles that appeared to have been involved in a broad-side collision. The vehicles were described as a white, 2013 Toyota Camry that sustained major driver side damage, and a red, 2014 Ford F150 with moderate front end damage.

The driver of the Camry sustained major injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The driver of the Ford F150 suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene of the collision. He was reportedly cooperating with the sheriff’s crash investigation. 

Based on the circumstances, Jurupa Valley PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene of the wreck and assumed the investigation. 

During their preliminary, on-scene investigation deputies determined that just before the crash, the Toyota was traveling northbound on Archer St, when it stopped at the one-way stop sign controlled intersection. At the same time the Ford pickup was traveling eastbound Limonite Ave.

For an unknown reason, the Toyota driver then proceeded to turn onto Limonite Ave., directly into the path of the oncoming Ford, which had the right of way.

The driver of the pickup had no time to stop or swerve and subsequently plowed broadside into the much smaller sedan, seriously injuring its driver.

Although Jurupa Valley PD’s investigation is ongoing, “it does not appear alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision,” according to Wood.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
