Officials investigating solo-vehicle rollover in Hemet neighborhood

HEMET — Officials are investigating the cause of a solo-vehicle, rollover accident, after a motorist hit a parked car, causing her vehicle to overturn Wednesday afternoon, March 27. Yesterday’s crash happened in the 2000 block of Begonia Ct., inside a small Hemet residential neighborhood, northwest of W. Johnston and S Lyon avenues.

City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash around 4 p.m., after receiving reports of a motorist who had struck another car, causing her vehicle to overturn onto its side. 911 callers reported the woman was possibly injured and trapped inside her overturned vehicle.

When officials arrived they found a brown Honda CRV on its side, with all occupants already out of the overturned vehicle.

Fire and rescue personnel evaluated the driver and determined she was uninjured, but showed possible signs of impairment. Officers later conducted a field sobriety test to determine if the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, their findings were not immediately known and it was not clear if the woman was arrested or released.

During their subsequent investigation, officers determined the driver, who has not been publicly identified, was traveling northwest on Begonia Ct. when she attempted to negotiate a left turn at an “L” intersection and lost control of her SUV.

Despite the neighborhood’s posted 25 mph speed limit, the Honda careened out of control before striking a silver, Volvo convertible that was parked in front of a residence. The impact and vehicle’s speed caused the woman’s SUV to overturn onto its side.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the crash and Hemet PD’s investigation is still ongoing at this time.
