Woman arrested after ransacking home, injuring family’s pet

ROUND MOUNTAIN –Authorities say they apprehended a woman accused of viciously attacking a family’s pet chihuahua after breaking into and ransacking their Round Mountain home Wednesday, Oct. 2. Although the woman fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival, officials eventually located and arrested her.

Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Burney Station were dispatched to a private residence on the 29000 block of Highway 299E, near Buzzard Roost Rd., after receiving the report of an interrupted burglary, Shasta County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kyle Wallace later reported.

The 911 caller told SHASCOM emergency dispatchers they had come home to find their house ransacked and while checking their residence the homeowner found their chihuahua injured.

“Based on the injury, it appeared the dog may have been kicked in the head,” Wallace explained.

As the homeowner continued looking through the residence they located a woman, later identified as Angela Quintana, 36, of Rocklin California, hiding in a room under the residence.

As the woman fled from the home, the homeowner managed to take a picture of the woman, which later helped deputies positively identify her as the person who broke into the home and attacked the homeowner’s dog.

When deputies arrived at the property they began searching for Quintana, with the assistance from Sheriff’s K9 “Blitz” and a CHP helicopter.

Although the deputies were not able to immediately locate Quintana during their initial search, they remained in the area actively looking for her, according to Wallace.

About an hour into their search deputies located the woman walking along Highway 299E where she was detained.

Based on their subsequent investigation, deputies arrested Quintana and transported her to Shasta County Jail where she was booked on suspicion of burglary and animal abuse. She remains held in custody and is scheduled to be arraigned at Shasta County Superior Court Friday, Oct. 4.
