Anderson man arrested after deadly Redding collision

REDDING — Authorities in Redding say they arrested an Anderson man after the allegedly intoxicated driver struck and killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning, Oct. 27. The deadly crash happened in front of the Casino Club at 1885 Hilltop Dr.

City of Redding Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the accident at 1:45 a.m., after receiving reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian, Redding Police Sgt. Jeff Schmidt reported after the accident and arrest.

When officials arrived they found the pedestrian down in the roadway with major traumatic injuries. The vehicle that struck the victim was nearby along with its driver, later identified as Jeffrey Brown, 49, of Anderson.

The victim was rushed to Mercy Medical Center where, despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Based on the circumstances, Redding PD’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, officers observed that Brown showed “signs and symptoms of impairment,” according to Schmidt.

“The investigation led to his arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and 2nd-degree murder,” the Sgt. explained. After his arrest, Brown was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding for those charges, according to Schmidt.

Officials have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of their family.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
