El Cerrito murder investigation continuing after man, 28, fatally shot

EL CERRITO, Calif. — Authorities have released very few details after a man was fatally shot in El Cerrito early Saturday morning, May 8.

Officials who are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting, which happened in the 19000 block of Washington Street, south of El Cerrito and Temecal Canyon roads, have said that no arrests have been made.

Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the Corona Regional Hospital around 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon involving shooting victim who had been taken to the hospital, Sergeant Steve Brosche later reported.

Despite life-saving efforts, the victim, since identified as Pedro Cervantes, a 28-year-old from El Cerrito, succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Investigators from the Central Homicide Unit and Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station have assumed the investigation, which is active and ongoing.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
