Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station, Cal Fire – Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a major injury collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Iemsisanith has since reported.

When officials arrived they found two involved vehicles, described as a silver, 2006 Toyota Avalon and white, 2009 Freightliner Cascadia. Paramedics quickly determined that the driver of the Toyota had already succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office today identified Amanuel Negash, 60, of Corona, as the victim killed in the collision. A Coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 3:12 p.m.

Based on the circumstances, members of the Jurupa Valley Sheriff Station’s Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation.

Their preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Toyota was traveling eastbound on Bellegrave Avenue when, for unknown reasons, he veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the Freightliner, which had been traveling westbound.

The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured in the collision and is continuing to cooperate with the investigation. Officials have not yet determined if alcohol and/or drug intoxication were contributing factors in the fatal crash and lemsisanith said the Sheriff’s investigation is ongoing.

While officials worked at the scene, Bellegrave Avenue was closed between Scholar Way and Hamner Avenue, but the roadway has since been reopened.

Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to call Deputy Medina at the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station at (951) 955-2600 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (951) 776-1099. Callers can refer to incident file number EV213270053 and can remain anonymous.
