Yreka officials respond to “debate and assumptions” regarding vandalized & reprogrammed informational sign
YREKA, Calif., — City of Yreka officials found themselves responding to questions, concerns, and complaints over the weekend regarding an electronic informational signboard, after area residents and motorists spotted the words “LETS GO BRANDON”” flashing during their morning travels on Saturday.
The signboard, which had been located on SR-3 east of Yreka as a part of the ongoing City water project, was placed at the location by a private contractor performing that work, who is not suspected by officials of having programmed the message in question.

Word of the tampered with sign began to spread Saturday morning, when Yreka News shared images of the altered message board. As of this morning, their social media post had received nearly 1,400 comments, responses, and shares, with commentors’ responses ranging from furious to hilarious.
Responding to the voiced concerns, Yreka Police Department yesterday issued a social media release about the issue, writing in-part, “There has been a lot of ‘debate and assumptions’ made regarding the informational road sign that was located along Hwy 3 east of Yreka.”

The post went on to explain that per the City of Yreka’s Director of Public Works, their department received information that the sign had been reprogrammed sometime before Saturday morning.
Officials have since determined the signboard had been broken into and vandalized by an unknown person or persons who had reprogrammed the electronic message.
