Little Lake Elementary School Placed On Lock Down During Pursuit Of Suspect

Hemet, Calif.; Little Lake Elementary School was placed on Lock Down today after a suspect wanted for violating a restraining order fled from sheriff’s deputies during an investigation near the school. Little Lake Elementary School is located at 26091 Meridian St, in the unincorporated area of Hemet.
At some point before 10:40 a.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet station responded to a location near the elementary school regarding the report of a male suspect at the location who was reportedly disturbing the peace.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the suspect and confirmed he had an active restraining order barring him from being at or near the location where the call originated from.
Deputy Michael Vasquez, of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Media Information Bureau, stated during the course of the deputy’s investigation, the suspect fled on foot from the investigating deputies, in an attempt to elude arrest for violation of the restraining order.
Deputy Vasquez stated the suspect was seen running adjacent to the school campus, where children could be seen playing on the playground, at which time the pursuing deputies called for the precautionary Lock Down of the elementary school.

The suspect was eventually located hiding in a construction site, directly adjacent to the elementary school campus, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Alex Cass, press information officer for the Hemet Unified School District, confirmed the school was placed on a precautionary Lock Down in accordance with the request from the sheriff’s department. Cass stated the Lock Down lasted approximately 5 minutes, from about 10:40 a.m. until about 10:45 a.m.
According to Cass, the short Lock Down did not have a significant affect on daily curriculum and the school quickly returned to normal daily activity.
As of this report, no further information was available regarding the suspect or his subsequent arrest.
