RIVERSIDE: Two arrested while in possession of stolen vehicle and other property

RIVERSIDE – Riverside police officers arrested two men for possession of a stolen vehicle and other stolen property on Saturday evening, Jan. 23. The arrests came after the victim of the vehicle theft spotted the suspects driving her stolen vehicle.

The Riverside Police Department’s Emergency Communication’s Center received a 911 call from the victim who called to report she had spotted her vehicle, which she had previously reported as stolen. The victim reported seeing the vehicle being driven on Van Buren Blvd.

With assistance from a K9 officer and the department’s Air Support Unit, officers responded to the area and began searching for the stolen car.

Officers located the vehicle in a shopping center the 5200 Block of Van Buren Boulevard. Officers established surveillance on the vehicle, while the suspects were shopping. Officers detained both suspects as they exited the store.

Officers identified Christopher Edward Lewis, 28, and Lawerence Deonbud Jones, 33. Both suspects are residents of Riverside, according to arrest and booking information.

After their investigation, officers arrested the pair for possessing the stolen vehicle as well as for possessing stolen checks and other property the suspects had taken earlier that evening from other victims.

A jail records search revealed both Lewis and Jones were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for possession of stolen property, a felony. Both are being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
