Alessandro Blvd. was shut down between Fredrick and Graham Streets for about 6 hours while deputies investigated this accident.

In a press release from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, Jody Hagemann, press information officer for Cal Fire explained 18 firefighters from four engine companies and one truck company responded to the reported accident.

Moreno Valley Firefighters eventually used the jaws of life to extricate a critically injured passenger from the vehicle.

The juvenile driver was treated at the scene for unspecified injuries and later transported to a local hospital according to Riverside Sheriff Sergeant Lingo. Another juvenile passenger was transported to an area hospital where he is in critical but stable condition. Two additional passengers, an adult and a juvenile, were treated for minor injuries at area hospitals.

The passenger who had to extricated from the car is in critical condition at Riverside County Regional Medical Center. In all, five victims were transported to local hospitals, two with major injuries and three with moderate injuries, according to Hagemann.

An initial investigation by deputies revealed the victim’s car had struck a tree after it was involved in a collision with another vehicle. Based on the severity of the accident, the Moreno Valley Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the collision and are investigating the collision.

Alessandro Blvd remained closed to through traffic in both direction between Frederick and Graham Streets for about 6 hours while members of the Moreno Valley Police Department’s Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team conducted their investigation. The roadway was blocked with assistance from Moreno Valley Police volunteers according to Lingo.

The deputies’ investigation revealed the vehicle was being driven westbound Alessandro Blvd. at Chagall Court, when the juvenile driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into a truck. The car then struck the north curb and collided into a tree. The occupants of the truck were not injured, Lingo said.

As of this report, deputies had not yet determined if alcohol or drug intoxication played a part in this traffic collision.
