BREAKING: Driver flees from wreck, after rolling truck in Hemet

HEMET – A vehicle has reportedly rolled over onto its side on a Hemet street, near Garland Way and Kirby Street.

The driver of the rolled vehicle, described as a white Dodge pickup truck, was temporarily trapped inside the wreckage. He was eventually able to pull himself from the truck, which some 911 callers initially claimed or believed had caught fire. The driver, described only as an adult male, fled from the area, jumping over a fence leading to a nearby RV storage facility.

The call was initially dispatched to City of Hemet firefighters and police officers just before 7:50 p.m., after multiple people called 911 to report seeing the rollover. Within moments, at least one caller advised the vehicle had caught fire and the unidentified driver was trapped inside the burning truck.

While officers and fire personnel were still heading to the scene, witnesses reported seeing the driver “self extricate” himself from the truck, that was left on its side. Once he managed to get out of the truck, he immediately fled from the scene of the rollover. He reportedly ran towards and jumped over a fence leading into the Terra Linda RV Storage, located at 691 S Kirby St.

Police and fire personnel quickly converged on the scene and determined the vehicle had not actually caught on fire. Due to the wrecked truck left on its side and debris strewn across the roadway, Officers called for the temporary closure of several nearby streets, while diverting vehicles into nearby neighborhoods or away from the scene of the rollover.

The truck was eventually righted back onto its wheels and was towed away and impounded as evidence. Police are investigating the hit and run and no further details have been released at this time.
