DUI-related crash in Lake Elsinore forces closure of Riverside Dr

LAKE ELSINORE – A man suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs caused a two vehicle accident Friday, April 29. The accident forced the temporary closure of northbound Riverside Drive near Eisenhower Drive, while deputies investigated the collision and cleared the roadway of vehicles and debris.

“The road was closed for approximately 40 minutes due to the collision,”Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Raymond Nava said about the accident and investigation.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore Police Station responded to the report of a two vehicle traffic collision at 3:33 p.m. During their investigation, deputies determined Massard to be under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs.

Deputies learned Bruce Massard, 59, of Lake Elsinore, failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he was exiting the driveway of an establishment onto Riverside Drive. Massard’s vehicle was struck broadside by a vehicle driving northbound.

Paramedics and other emergency first responders treated Massard, who suffered substantial, but non-life threatening injuries. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital.

The other involved vehicle, occupied by a South Dakota resident and her passenger were both uninjured.

“Charges for driving under the influence will be filed out-of-custody due to Massard’s medical condition,” according to Nava.

A jail records search conducted on May 1, showed Massard was still hospitalized and had not yet been booked into jail.
