HEMET – Officers from the Hemet Police Department arrested a man – who was already wanted on three unrelated warrants for his arrest – after he forcibly robbed a woman Thursday, April 5. The violent incident began when the alleged suspect requested to use a woman’s cell phone, according to police officials.

Hemet Police Officers responded to the area of Harvard Street and Acacia Avenue at about 12:40 a.m., to investigate the reported robbery.

Following their investigation Hemet PD officers arrested Clarence Jaquil Taylor, 22, of unincorporated Hemet, for robbery. He was also arrested for three misdemeanor warrants.

The unidentified female victim called 911 to report the robbery immediately after the incident occurred. She reportedly told investigating officers she was approached by Taylor, who asked to use her cellular telephone. When the victim said no, Taylor allegedly tried to grab the cellular telephone from the victim and a struggle over the phone ensued.

Taylor, who is 6’2″, managed to forcibly wrestle the phone away from the victim and then fled the area on foot. The victim provided officers with a description of Taylor as well as his last known direction of travel after he fled with her phone.

Officers converged on the area and began searching for Taylor. They quickly located Taylor on West Florida Avenue and detained him for further investigation. Officers discovered Taylor was still in possession of the victim’s cell phone. They recovered the victim’s stolen property and later returned the phone to the victim, who was not injured in the robbery.

During their investigation, officers conducted a records check on Taylor and learned he had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. The three warrants were for domestic violence, trespassing onto a non-commercial property and disobeying a court order.

The victim positively identified Taylor as the subject who had allegedly stolen the phone that was found to be in his possession. Based on the victim’s statements and positive identification of Taylor, as well as the recovery of the stolen phone, officers arrested Taylor for robbery.

At the conclusion of their investigation, officers transported Taylor to the to the Southwest Detention Center, where he was booked for robbery, as well as his three unrelated warrants.

A jail records search revealed Taylor was released from jail the following day after posting $30,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at an unspecified court June 30.
