UPDATED: 05/06/2016 11:00 p.m.
HEMET – A man and two dogs were reportedly shot multiple times Thursday, May 5, during a robbery that occurred at a business listed as P.R.E.I. Corporation, according to police officials. The business is in the Alessandro Center, located at 640 N. San Jacinto Street, in Hemet.
Police officials believe the shooting was the result of a robbery and that multiple suspects were involved. It was not immediately known how many suspects fired at the victim and the two dogs; however, more than one suspect entered the office during the robbery and subsequent shooting.
Hemet Police officers responded to the business at about 9:45 p.m., after City of Hemet emergency communications dispatchers received a 911 call about shots being fired inside the business.
Hemet PD officers and Riverside County – Region 3 – Gang Task Force members arrived within moments of the initially dispatched call and located the victim and two dogs that had been shot at the business. The victim, identified by family members as Akbar El-Amin, reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the violent robbery.
El-Amin was transported to a local hospital, where he remains hospitalized. His wounds are believed to be non-life-threatening and he is expected to survive, according to his family.
Both of the dogs shot during the incident were taken to California Veterinary Specialists in Murrieta and were treated for multiple gunshot wounds and other injuries they received during the violent incident. One of the dogs, named “Haze,” was reportedly shot four times and is recovering back at home with it’s owner. The other dog, “Khalifa,” is still at C.V.S. receiving treatment.
Two unidentified male adults were handcuffed and taken from the scene by Gang Task Force members, who had responded to the business to assist in the investigation. As of this report, no information had been released regarding the two subjects, whether they were arrested or any possible connection they may or may not have had to the shooting or the business that was robbed.
Very little is known about the business where the shooting occurred or the business’ owner El-Amin; however police officials have said they believed the business where the shooting occurred was possibly operating as an unlicensed marijuana dispensary.
A state records search revealed P.R.E.I. Corp is listed as a “Domestic Nonprofit.” The company filed as a California Domestic Corporation on April 22, 2014. Although the company’s filing status is listed has been active for more than two years, other than the state records related to the initial filing for domestic corproration, no information could be found about the company online or in any other records searches.
El-Amin is the only principal on record for the business and is listed as the company’s president. In addition to the P.R.E.I. office, El-Amin is the listed agent of an office space adjacent to P.R.E.I. Corp.
That business is registered as DNA Services Unlimited and is run by Annette Jones – who filed a restraining order against El-Amin in 2015.
A Superior Court records search revealed the only court matters involving El-Amin was a family law matter related to a Temporary Restraining Order that had been ordered against him. The protected person in the TRO was listed as Annette Jones. The case was filed Nov. 9, 2015. A date was set for a judge at the Hemet Superior Courthouse to determine whether to extend the TRO to a Permanent Restraining Order. On Nov. 30, a family law judge hearing the matter dismissed the case. No further actions are pending in the matter. El-Amin has no other current or past court cases.
Other tenants inside the same complex include Jackson-Hewitt, State Farm, Rage Hair Salon and FitXPress Gym, as well as Compassionate Harvest Medical Clinic, which is listed as a location to obtain physical examinations related to the issuing of cards used for the legal purchase and use of medicinal marijuana.
The day after the robbery and shooting, “Haze’s” owner, and a representative of the family who did not want to be identified, talked about the injuries her dog sustained. “He’s a pretty amazing dog. He’s 11-years-old and I have had him since he was a puppy. He has 3 entrance and exits on his chest, one entrance and exit wound on his front left arm that left an air pocket in the bone and a gunshot wound on his back left foot that went straight through the leg. He has already been up walking a bit, but he is in a lot of pain”
A gofundme account has been established by “Haze’s” owner, however funds collected are being applied primarily for the care of the second dog, “Khalifa,” who is owned by another member of the family, and is still at the veterinary clinic receiving treatment.
Donations for “Khalifa’s” care and “Haze’s” extensive medical expenses can also be made directly to California Veterinary Specialists, located in Murrieta, at 39809 Avenida Acacias. The number to C.V.S. for direct donations is (951) 600-9803.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact Hemet Police officials at (951) 765-2400.
