Man found dead in Redding pond, officials seek public’s help

REDDING – Officials from the Redding Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in locating family members of a man found floating face down in a pond at an apartment complex located at 2155 Park Marina Drive, Redding. Although the victim has been identified by coroner’s officials, nobody from the man’s family has been identified or located.

The victim was identified as Lawrence Ray Simmons, 39, of Carson City NV. “The Coroner’s Office is asking for assistance in locating next of kin or anyone that knows Mr. Simmons. Simmons has a tattoo on his right shoulder of an Eagle and ‘Battle Born Carson City’,” according to Deputy Coroner Investigator Vickie Vincent.

Redding Police officers responded to the Park Marina Village Apartments Saturday, May 07, at 8:30 a.m., after 911 emergency communications dispatchers received a 911 call from a citizen reporting finding Simmons found face down in the pond near the apartment complex. The pond and apartment complex where Simmons’ body was discovered is located to the west side and directly adjacent to the Sacramento River.

A post-mortem exam has been completed, but the coroner’s official Cause of Death will be pending toxicology results, Vincent explained.
