Woman, 82 and son brutally beaten during Menifee home invasion
MENIFEE – A 55-year old man and his 82-year old mother were both hospitalized after a violent, early morning home invasion robbery, Wednesday, June 1. The vicious attack occurred in the 26200 Block of San Quintin Avenue, in Menifee, according to a sheriff official.
During the robbery, the suspect – who has only been identified as a black, adult male – physically assaulted the two victims. Both victims suffered serious injuries, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Curt Harris explained in a press release.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Menifee Police Station responded to the residence after Riverside County emergency communications dispatchers received a 911 call reporting the home invasion robbery at about 4:10 a.m.
When deputies arrived, they found both seriously injured victims. Paramedics evaluated and treated both victims before transporting them to a local area hospital.
The deputies’ initial investigation revealed the unidentified suspect forced his way into the victim’s residence and brandished a firearm. At some point during the robbery, the suspect allegedly beat and injured both victims.
After the brutal attack, the suspect stole the victims’ van and fled from the location. It was not immediately known if the suspect took anything else during the unprovoked attack.
Deputies searching the area for the stolen van found it abandoned it after it became disabled at the intersection of Ridgemoor Road and Sun City Boulevard, exactly two miles from the victim’s residence.
Investigators and officers assigned to the Burglary Suppression Team responded to the two crime scenes and took over the investigation. “They subsequently collected evidence and are following up leads to identify the suspect(s) involved in this violent criminal act,” Harris said.
