Terrance Jackson was arrested after assaulting and fleeing from a Hemet Police officer.

A Hemet transient – the sixth suspect to violently assault a Hemet Police officer in the last two weeks according to police officials – was arrested after he first assaulted a Hemet business owner near Florida Avenue and Mayflower Street before later attacking and fleeing from an officer. The incident led to a short, but drama-filled, foot pursuit.

After the foot pursuit, police arrested 26-year-old Terrance Terrill Jackson. He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on felony and misdemeanor assault charges.

Hemet Police investigated an assault at an unspecified business earlier in the morning, according to a press release from the department.

Several hours later, an alert Hemet Police officer spotted the suspect near Gibbel Park in downtown Hemet.

The officer tried to detain the suspect but he violently resisted arrest, assaulted the officer and fled on foot.

During the foot pursuit, Jackson jumped walls and plowed through fences, and reportedly attempted to carjack a passing motorist. That motorist has not yet been identified, located, or interviewed.

A jail records search revealed Jackson was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest with violence, obstructing or resisting an officer, and battery. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail and expected to be arraigned at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta, June 23.

HEMET – A suspect led Hemet Police officers on a foot pursuit and attempted to carjack a passing motorist before he began jumping fences and walls in his attempt to elude arrest this afternoon. The man, who has not yet been officially identified, was taken into custody after fighting with the officer who eventually cornered and trapped the fleeing subject.

It was not immediately known what led to the foot pursuit and attempted carjacking but at 3:36 p.m., a Hemet Police officer notified City of Hemet police dispatchers he was pursuing a subject who was running from him. The fleeing man was running from West Devonshire Avenue southbound onto Brandon Way.

The fleeing man attempted to carjack a passing motorist near the intersection of Brandon Way and Carl Drive before he ran eastbound on Carl Drive. The as of yet unidentified motorist fled from the attempted carjacking in their vehicle. As of this report, they had not been located, identified or interviewed.

After the failed carjacking, the suspect ran eastbound on Carl Way before he began jumping walls and fences, heading northbound, back towards Devonshire Avenue where the foot pursuit began.

With rapidly approaching officers boxing him in with a tight perimeter, the suspect again began jumping over fences and walls, this time heading westbound until he became boxed in once again and attempted to hide in the backyard of a private residence on Carl Drive.

With officers closing in on the fleeing man, he made another effort to run westbound through residential backyards. Officers chasing from close behind reported hearing the fleeing man kicking his way through fences as he ran.
