2 of 5 arrested after robbing Moreno Valley delivery driver
MORENO VALLEY – Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station arrested two of five alleged suspects who have been accused of robbing a delivery driver of all their money and food the driver was delivering, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Kent. The robbery occurred Monday, May 30, at about 12:30 a.m., in the 23000 block of Redbark Drive, in Moreno Valley.
Deputies assigned to the station’s Robbery/Burglary Suppression Team arrested the first two of five alleged suspects, identified as Mark Smith III, 18, who was arrested June 22, and Daviontae Sargent, 18, who was arrested June 23. Both are residents of Moreno Valley.
The nearly month-long investigation – which is still active and ongoing – began after an unidentified victim was robbed while delivering food from a local restaurant. While making deliveries, five suspects approached the victim and one of the suspects displayed a handgun. The suspects demanded all the money the driver was carrying as well as the food the driver was delivering.
Deputies thoroughly searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate any of them that morning. The Moreno Valley Station’s Robbery/Burglary Suppression Team subsequently assumed the robbery investigation.
During the course of their investigation, deputies identified Smith III and Sargent as two of the five suspects involved in the robbery.
Deputies located and arrested Smith on June 22. They located and arrested Sargent the following day. Both men were arrested in Moreno Valley.
“The Robbery Suppression Team is continuing to investigate the identities of the other three suspects,” Kent wrote in a press release.
