Two severely burned after butane hash oil lab explosion at Riverside home

RIVERSIDE – Two people suffered extensive burns and a house was badly damaged when a marijuana butane hash oil lab exploded in the 3600 block of Castle Reagh Place, in Riverside. The explosion and injuries occurred Monday, July 4, at about 1:11 a.m.,

The City of Riverside Public Safety Communications Center received numerous calls reporting multiple loud explosions and flames seen coming from the back yard of the residence.

The Riverside Police Department and Riverside Fire Department responded to the location to investigate.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, officers discovered an illegal marijuana butane hash oil (BHO) lab discovered on the property.

Hash oil, also known as honey oil, gets its name from its honey-like look.

Investigating officers and firefighters determined that the BHO lab had exploded, causing numerous canisters of butane to explode. The multiple explosions and subsequent fire extensively damaged the residence and severely injured the two suspects who had been processing the hash oil, also known as honey oil, due to its thick honey-like look.

Paramedics treated the two suspects at the scene before they were transported to a local area burn center. They were reportedly admitted for treatment of severe burns as a result of the explosions.

Riverside Police detectives and Riverside Fire arson investigators are currently investigating the incident.
