SJ valley “Zero Tolerance” enforcement sweep nets 43
SAN JACINTO VALLEY — Last Friday the 13th was a very unlucky day for forty-three criminals who were arrested for sixty-eight criminal violations, including fifteen felonies, during a “Zero Tolerance” enforcement operation. During the coordinated Dec. 13 sweep, authorities from nearly a dozen agencies partnered to serve forty-six warrants, including three felony and forty-three misdemeanor warrants.
The focus of the operation “was to apprehend any and all subjects found to be in violation of any crime,” according to officials who said the goal of the operation and arresting those offenders was to “improve the overall quality of life for the citizens of these communities.”

Friday’s operation began early that morning at a staging and control center where a makeshift mobile booking and processing area were established at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station in Valle Vista. Several mobile command center RV’s were brought to the staging area to assist officials with the day-long enforcement sweep.
Officials from Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Hemet Police Department, Gang Task Force, Murrieta Police Department, Animal Control, Riverside County Probation Department, California Department of Corrections-Parole, Riverside County Cal-ID fanned out throughout the San Jacinto valley to search for and apprehend anyone in violation of their parole or probation terms or who had outstanding warrants for their arrest.
Paramedics from Hemet Tactical Emergency Medical Services and American Medical Response were also on hand for the day-long operation, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. James Burton reported after the successful sweep.

As Friday’s sweep was getting underway, officials received information regarding a potential armed robbery that was going to occur within the City of San Jacinto, Hemet Sheriff’s Cpt. Leonard Purvis later reported. Swift-acting deputies were able to foil the armed robbery, which had been planned by three juveniles in San Jacinto, and located and arrested the suspects as they were on their way to commit the robbery, according to the Cpt.
“Members participating in the operation were instrumental in apprehending the three juvenile suspects who intended to commit the robbery,” Purvis explained.
As the operation continued throughout the day and into the evening, a steady stream of arrestees were brought to the staging and command center where they were processed and then transported to area jails.
During the enforcement operation officials seized more than fifty grams of methamphetamine, 110 grams of marijuana, three bottles of prescription pills and a small quantity of heroin. One occupied stolen vehicle was also recovered and the driver was arrested.

- 24-year-old San Jacinto resident Gustavo Pena for Possession of Controlled Substances and Possession of Controlled Substances
- 43-year-old San Jacinto resident Joseph Moreno for Probation Violation and Possession of Controlled Substances
- 43-year-old San Jacinto resident Sacha Schuilenburg for Probation Violation
- 35-year-old Hemet resident Jacqueline Smith for Probation Violation, Possession of Controlled Substances and Possession of Paraphernalia
- 62-year-old San Jacinto resident Cornell Harrison for Felon in Possession of Ammunition
- 30-year-old San Jacinto resident Edward Hernandez for Felon in Possession of Ammunition

After the operation Burton said the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s goal “is to keep all of our citizens safe while also improving quality of life.”
“The use of illegal drugs not only affect the individual, but also the community as illegal drug use is the root cause of many of the crimes that affect our county,” Burton continued; saying, “The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has a zero-tolerance policy for these offenses.”

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
