Two men arrested while burglarizing Riverside church
RIVERSIDE – An early morning burglary at St. Andrew’s Orthodox Church, in the 4700 block of Canyon Crest Drive, in Riverside Friday, July 8, ended with the arrest of two men who had broken into the church to steal items from the location, according to riverside Police officials.
Following an investigation, Daniel H. Chun, 29, and Willy Leader Methu, 30, both of Riverside, were detained and later arrested. Both men were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for commercial burglary.
Riverside Police officers responded to the church at about 1:45 a.m., regarding an audible alarm activation.
Upon arrival, officers were informed one or more suspects was believed to still be inside the church.
Officers surrounded the building and a K-9 officer and his partner, “Rocco” arrived to assist. Officers made several announcements from outside the church, at which time Chun and Methu came out from their hiding spots inside the church and surrendered.
During their investigation, Chun and Methu admitted to investigating officers they had broken into the church with the intent to steal items from inside the location.
A jail record search revealed that although Chun’s bail was set at $10,000, he was released later the same day on his own recognizance. Methu remains in jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Chun is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of justice September 8. Methu is scheduled to be arraigned July 12.
