Lake Elsinore deputy injured in two-car collision

LAKE ELSINORE – A Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy from the Lake Elsinore Police Station was hospitalized after another vehicle smashed into the deputy’s patrol car Friday, July 15. The accident happened in the area of Main Street and the I-15 freeway off ramp in Lake Elsinore. Main Street was closed for about one hour after the collision while California Highway Patrol officers investigated the accident.

The deputy reported being involved in the traffic collision at 5:26 p.m, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant James Woodland.

The deputy involved in the collision suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Woodland wrote in a press release. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

CHP officers were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.

“Witness and driver statements indicate a vehicle exiting the northbound I-15 collided with the patrol car as the patrol car traveled on Main Street,” Woodland explained. “Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the collision at this time.”
