UPDATED: One killed, 6 injured in Perris rollover

PERRIS – A 52-year-old Perris resident was killed in a single-vehicle multi-injury rollover traffic accident Sunday, July 31. The fatal accident happened in a large, open field adjacent to the 800 block of San Jacinto Avenue in Perris.
The field where the accident occurred is south of Dunlap Drive and east of the I-215 Freeway.
One passenger, the 52-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified, pending notification of the victim’s family.
At 12:17 p.m. deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Police Station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the area after a motorist called to report seeing a white GMC Yukon XL rollover while being driven off-road westbound through the field. The SUV reportedly rolled several times, ejecting several of its’ seven occupants, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant J.P. Strang.

“Alcohol and drug use is suspected as the cause of this collision,” Strang said about the deadly accident.
Due to the number of injured victims, the first arriving engine company declared the incident a mass casualty event, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman.
11 firefighters from two Engine Companies and one Truck Company responded to the accident scene. Six ambulances also responded to the location to transport the injured victims.
One passenger, the 52-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified, pending notification of the victim’s family.
The driver, a male resident of Hemet, sustained major traumatic injuries and paramedics transported him to a local hospital where he has been listed in critical condition.

At 1:12 p.m., Newman updated that paramedics transported all six surviving patients by ground ambulances to area hospitals. Four victims were listed with major injuries, two were listed as sustaining moderate injuries. All six were expected to survive.
The Perris Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the location and assumed the investigation.
Because the vehicle involved in the deadly rollover was being driven offroad at the time of the accident, there were no road closures that resulted from the incident.
Mindi Hansen a friend of the family of Luis Viscarra, one of those critically injured in Sunday’s rollover accident has created a gofundme account to help offset his medical bills and ongoing care.

Hansen explained Viscarra, who is 21-years-old and was a caretaker for his disabled mother and his siblings has been admitted to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center where he is on life support with severe injuries.
“Luis has three skull fractures, internal bleeding, swelling in his brain, a broken sternum, and a punctured lung,” Hansen explained. “His spine is broken in three places, which will need surgery using metal rods to reconnect his spine. He has lost feeling from his chest down and may never walk again.”
“If his brain swelling subsides he may be able to use his arms to get around in a wheelchair. If not he will be quadriplegic,” Hansen said. “This is all we know for now…but we have high hopes that Luis will make a fast recovery.”
A second gofundme account has been set up by the family of Sidney Hall, the 52-year-old who died in the rollover accident after he was ejected from the SUV. The account was set up to help with Hall’s memorial Services.

Speaking on behalf of her brother Sidney Hall Jr. and the rest of Hall’s family, Tasha Robledo said, “Our family would like to share our condolences with the other parties involved and wish all a speedy recovery.”
“As for us, we have lost a beloved grandfather, father, brother, spouse, uncle, cousin, and friend, Robledo explained. “Also, if anyone has any additional information about the accident please contact local law enforcement.”
