Moreno Valley man dies after being ejected in traffic collision

MORENO VALLEY – A man died when he was ejected from his vehicle after he was involved in a major two-vehicle traffic collision Wednesday, August 3. The fatal accident happened on Perris Boulevard, about 100 feet north of the intersection of Canyon Vista Road in Moreno Valley.

The man, who coroner officials later identified as Danny Maldonado, 33, of Moreno Valley, suffered major traumatic injuries when he was ejected from his vehicle.

This was the second major traffic collision in Moreno Valley that occurred on the same morning within hours of each other. In the first accident, a motorcyclist was critically injured in a solo-vehicle accident on Heacock between Bay and Cottonwood Avenues. The two accidents occurred just over four miles apart from each other.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station and other emergency first responders rushed to the location at 6:08 a.m. They responded to the scene of the accident after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls from citizens reporting the deadly collision.

Deputies, fire personnel, and paramedics arrived within minutes of the dispatched call. Emergency first responders discovered one occupant had been ejected from his vehicle in the collision.

Despite life-saving efforts by firefighters and paramedics, Maldonado succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

A coroner’s report listed Maldonado’s time of injury as 6:08 a.m. His time of death was listed nine minutes later, at 6:17 a.m.

Deputies investigating the accident determined that two vehicles, including the car being driven by Maldonado, were traveling northbound on Perris Boulevard.

At the intersection of Canyon Vista Drive, Maldonado “began making several erratic swerving movements,” according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant William Stens.

“As the driver of a Toyota pickup truck crested the hill just south of Canyon Vista Drive he observed the driving actions of the Honda and began slowing,” Stens explained.

“For unknown reasons, Maldonado made a sudden left turn directly in front of the Toyota and a collision occurred,” according to Stens. Upon impact, “the driver of the Honda was ejected from the vehicle,” Stens said.

Perris Boulevard was closed between Sunnymead Ranch Parkway and Heacock Street for about seven hours while the fatal collision was investigated.
