Early morning Murrieta collision results in vehicle fire

MURRIETA – A two-car collision at the intersection of Magnolia Street and Jefferson Avenue left one car destroyed by a raging fire Aug. 3. City of Murrieta firefighters and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the location at about 1:12 a.m. after several witnesses and passing motorist called the City of Murrieta’s Communications Center to report the accident.

The first arriving fire crews found two cars that had smashed into each other. One of the cars, described as a four-door sedan, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

“Firefighters immediately extinguished the fire,” according to Murrieta Fire Public Information Officer Captain Matt Corelli.

“Remarkably, there were no injuries to the occupants of either of the vehicles,” Corelli said. “However, given the rate at which the fire spread before the crews arrived the vehicle was determined to be a total loss.”

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by Murrieta Police officials.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact Murrieta Police officials at (951) 304-2677 or Murrieta Fire Department officials at (951) 240-1124. Callers can refer to incident file number FD20160803 and can remain anonymous.

  • Good reporting. That picture, is at a good day angle. It shows like the other car impact. Left both , bumpers are really, locked together. That’s amazing no one hurt.
