Motorcyclist arrested after Hemet pursuit
HEMET – A motorcyclist led Hemet Police officers on a wild pursuit through city streets and residential neighborhoods before he ditched his motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot Tuesday, Aug 9. The man who fled from officers was eventually found hiding in a backyard in the 5800 block of Nectar Avenue near Mcintosh Drive.
The vehicle and foot pursuit began at 5:02 p.m. and concluded when the alleged suspect was taken into custody 11 minutes later at 5:13 p.m.
Lucas Micah Pinkerton, 22, of Hemet, was eventually arrested by responding officials, who also found a red backpack the suspect had been wearing during the pursuit. Pinkerton had hidden the backpack inside a backyard near where he was found.
Upon inspecting the contents of the backpack, officials located a loaded Glock handgun that had been reported as stolen.
The officer first spotted Pinkerton speeding and riding recklessly and attempted to catch up with him to initiate a traffic stop for the observed vehicle code violation. However, Pinkerton ignored the officer’s lights and siren and immediately fled at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit wound its’ way through a number of main streets, side streets, and residential areas, with the officer in pursuit.
Numerous additional officers and sheriff’s deputies converged on the area to assist in stopping and apprehending the fleeing rider, who was described as riding a black and green motorcycle and wearing a white shirt and a red backpack.
Pinkerton drove in an extremely reckless manner without regard for the safety of pursuing officials or citizens. During the pursuit, he was seen riding through stop signs and riding on the wrong side of the roadway.
Throughout the pursuit, Pinkerton was seen discarding several items at different locations.
Pinkerton finally gave up fleeing on his motorcycle when the pursuing officers temporarily lost sight of him in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Delicious Drive. Pinkerton ditched his bike in the front yard of a residence on Nectar Avenue and attempted to hide in the area.
Hemet Police officers and Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies flooded the area and Pinkerton was eventually spotted fleeing into a backyard on Nectar Avenue. When officials attempted to detain Pinkerton he violently resisted arrest and it took several officers and deputies to take him into custody.
After Pinkerton was detained, officers conducted a record check and learned he was on Post Release Community Supervision probation.
Officers arrested Pinkerton on a number of charges and transported him to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning after he was medically cleared for booking.
A jail record search revealed Pinkerton was booked on suspicion of recklessly evading a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being in possession of stolen property and revocation of his probation.
He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at an unspecified court Aug. 12.
