Two men shot outside Jurupa Hills Country Club, 71-year-old killed

JURUPA VALLEY – Riverside County Sheriff’s officials are conducting a homicide investigation after a shooting that happened at the intersection of Linares Avenue and Moraga Avenue, in Jurupa Valley Wednesday, Aug. 10, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Wallace Clear.

The location where the deadly incident occurred is the entrance to the Jurupa Hills Country Club and is located just north of the country club and south of Limonite Avenue.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Police Station responded to reports of the shooting at 6:28 p.m. Deputies arrived within minutes and located two adult male victims suffering gunshot wounds.

“One male was found deceased in his vehicle, according to Clear. “The second was a pedestrian who was transported to an area hospital where he received treatment for his non-life threatening injury.”

Riverside County Coroner officials identified the victim killed in the shooting as Ronald Capotosto, 71, of Riverside. The coroner’s release indicated Capotosto was shot at 6:28 p.m. He was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m.

The other person shot and injured has not been identified by officials.

“There was no apparent affiliation between the two victims,” Clear explained in a press release about the deadly incident.

The suspect in the shooting – who has not been identified – fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.

Based on the circumstances, investigators from the Jurupa Valley Station and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which is still underway.

Radio traffic from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department at 6:39 p.m. that was posted to social media, reported a possible additional shooting at a nearby Circle K located at the intersection of Limonite Avenue and Clay Street in Jurupa Valley. Those calls were later determined to be related to the shooting of the two victims at the intersection of Linares and Moraga Avenues.
