Hemet assault victim fights back, stabs attacker
HEMET – Two men suffered minor to moderate injuries during an assault where the victim defended himself and stabbed his attacker with a knife Friday, Sept. 2. The incident happened in the 26800 block of Via Sendero, in the unincorporated area of Hemet. The area is located to the east of the City of Hemet.
At 7:52 p.m., deputies from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station responded to the residence regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies arrived within minutes of the dispatched call and quickly located and detained two male subjects involved in the assault. deputies have not released what relation, if any, the two men have.

Deputies conducted an investigation that revealed Gilbert Hernandez, 37, of Hemet, assaulted the victim during an argument. During the assault, the victim defended himself and stabbed Hernandez in an attempt to stop his attack, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Bill Guimont.
The assault victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and declined further treatment. Paramedics treated Hernandez at the scene before they transported him to a local hospital for further treatment. Guimont described his injuries as “non-life threatening.”
Hernandez was later booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for two felonies and three misdemeanors.
A jail record search revealed Hernandez was booked on suspicion of two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, brandishing a weapon, and making criminal threats.
He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta. His next court date has not yet been scheduled.
