UPDATED: Victim shot in Riverside church parking lot identified

The Riverside County Coroner’s office has released the name of the victim killed in last Sunday’s shooting incident as Luis Quintanar, 18, of Riverside. The release listed Quintanar’s time of injury as 1:12 a.m. He was later pronounced dead at the Riverside Community Hospital at 2:09 a.m.
No additional information has been released related to this incident.

RIVERSIDE – An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in a church parking lot Sunday, Aug. 28. The deadly shooting happened in the parking lot of the Central Community Church in the 5600 Block of Arlington Avenue in Riverside.
Riverside Police officers and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the church at about 1:12 a.m. regarding a shooting in the church’s parking lot.
Officers quickly arrived and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. The victim was evaluated and treated at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital. The victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff. The victim has not been named, pending identification and notification of his family.
Detectives from the Robbery/Homicide Unit along with evidence technicians from the department’s Forensic Unit responded to the crime scene to assume the investigation.
“Preliminarily, it appears the victim was walking in the area with some friends when they were contacted by the suspect,” an official press release from the department explained. “A physical altercation occurred and the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.”
Detectives believe there were additional witnesses to this crime that left the location prior to the arrival of patrol officers. They have asked for the public’s help in identifying any suspect(s) or witnesses to this incident. Trevor Montgomery spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg in an off-duty accident.

Trevor has been married for more than 26 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 10 (soon to be 12) grandchildren.
