HEMET – A man was slightly injured when he lost control of his truck, nearly sideswiped a tree, and then smashed into a light pole Tuesday, Sept. 13. The accident happened just east of the intersection of Florida and Palm Avenues.

The 50-year-old driver, who was not identified, said he was driving westbound on Florida Avenue when another vehicle suddenly pulled out from the America’s Best Value Inn and Suites, located at 800 West Florida Avenue.

After the other driver pulled out directly in front of the man’s truck, they panicked and slammed on their brakes.

The driver of the truck attempted to swerve around the other vehicle while simultaneously hitting his brakes, which caused him to lose control of his truck.

After his brakes locked up, the truck slid about 45-50 feet before smashing into the light pole.

The pole was severely damaged in the accident and left leaning across Florida Avenue. It was later pulled down by California Edison workers so it could be replaced.

The driver involved in the accident was evaluated by paramedics, however he declined further medical treatment at the scene. His truck was later towed from the location.
