San Jacinto: Butcher’s knife-wielding man arrested after violent domestic incident

SAN JACINTO – Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s San Jacinto Police Station arrested a man for attempted murder and other charges after a violent domestic violence incident Saturday, Sept. 10. The incident happened in the 600 block of E. Washington Avenue.

During a subsequent investigation deputies learned Henry Estavillo, 33, of San Jacinto was already out of jail on probation. At the end of their investigation, deputies arrested Estavillo. He was booked into jail for six felonies and two misdemeanors related to the incident.

The incident began when deputies responded to the residence regarding what was dispatched as a minor family disturbance at about 5:50 p.m. As deputies were still en route to the residence the call was upgraded after Riverside County dispatchers learned the man had armed himself with a large butcher knife. Based on the new information, additional deputies began to converge on the residence

As the first deputy on-scene approached the home, he could hear a loud and violent struggle with a woman screaming coming from inside the residence. Due to the sounds of the violence and woman in distress occurring inside the home and the exigency of the circumstances deputies made entry into the residence.

Once deputies entered the residence, the victim was able to flee from the home.

Deputies located the suspect, later identified as Estavillo, inside the residence. Estavillo was still armed with a large butcher knife. Even though Estavillo was armed with a butcher knife deputies attempted to calm him and convince him to drop the knife he was holding.

Estavillo then fled the location on foot while still in possession of the knife. As he was running down the street, a sheriff’s K-9 was used to subdue Estavillo and he was taken into custody without further incident.

After his arrest deputies transported Estavillo to the Larry Smith Correctional Facility.

A jail record search revealed Estavillo was booked on the felony charges of suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of obstructing/resisting a peace officer with violence, assault resulting in great bodily injury, and violation of probation. He was also charged with two misdemeanors, including inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and exhibiting a weapon other than a fire arm.

Estavillo is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and was schedule to be seen at an unspecified court today, Sept. 14.

Paramedics responded to the residence and evaluated and treated the victim at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.
