MORENO VALLEY: Victim trapped after head-on collision

MORENO VALLEY – A head on collision on Gilman Springs Road just east of Alessandro Boulevard on the eastern edge of Moreno Valley caused the temporary closure of all lanes of traffic on Gilman Springs Road earlier today, Monday, Oct. 17.
The accident resulted in one person who sustained “major” injuries and another who was not injured, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department official.
The accident reportedly involved a compact car described as a grey Honda and either a Ford F250 or F450 utility pickup truck pulling a trailer with a Bobcat utility vehicle, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.
One vehicle reportedly ended up in the eastbound lanes of traffic while the other ended up in the westbound lanes of traffic.

The accident was first reported to CHP and Cal Fire Riverside County firefighters by several 911 callers about 3:05 p.m.
Callers reported the accident had left one of the drivers trapped inside their vehicle. Neither the press release nor the CHP incident log clarified which vehicle held the trapped driver.
11 firefighters from two engine companies and one truck company responded to the accident scene, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman.
“The first arriving engine company advised one patient was trapped and the other driver was not injured,” Newman wrote in a press release. “Firefighters extricated the trapped patient, who was then transported by ground (ambulance) to an area hospital with serious injuries.”
Both involved vehicles and the trailer carrying the Bobcat were all towed from the accident scene.
The roadway was reopened to through traffic just before 5 p.m.

Trevor Montgomery spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg in an off-duty accident.

Trevor has been married for more than 26 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 12 – soon to be 13 – grandchildren.

It was the Grey Honda that someone was trapped in.
Thank you. I figured as much, considering a small Honda versus a large F-450 with a loaded utility trailer, but I try to only stick to facts. I don’t like to speculate. I even tried contacting some of the folks that were there on scene, but couldn’t get a response in time.
