HEMET: Man attacks 77-year-old during vandalism spree
HEMET – A 20-year-old Hemet resident armed with a large metal chain attacked a 77-year-old senior citizen while on a vandalism spree Saturday, Oct. 15. The unprovoked incidents happened in the 700 block of W. Whittier Avenue in Hemet.
City of Hemet emergency dispatchers began receiving several reports of a male subject vandalizing cars and houses with a metal chain at 9:46 p.m.
Officers from the Hemet Police Department responded to the area and were able to locate a male suspect matching the description in the area of 1400 W. Whittier Ave. They detained him without incident. Officers identified the man as Orion Isaiah Heil, 20, of Hemet.
Evidence found in Heil’s possession linked him to several cars and houses that were damaged along Whittier Ave.
While officers were conducting their investigation, they learned that in addition to vandalizing numerous vehicles and homes, Heil had also assaulted a 77-year old with the chain. Heil attacked the senior citizen just before the police arrived, after the man came out of his house to see what was happening.
During their investigation, officers concluded that Heil was under the influence of a controlled substance. They arrested Heil and transported him to Riverside County Jail.
A jail record search revealed Heil was booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of physical abuse of an elder, assault with a deadly weapon, multiple counts of vandalism, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 and is scheduled to be seen at an unspecified court Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Trevor Montgomery spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg in an off-duty accident.

Trevor has been married for more than 26 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 12 – soon to be 13 – grandchildren.
