MORENO VALLEY – Student with a BB gun causes gun scare at CSHS

MORENO VALLEY – A student who allegedly brought a BB gun onto campus at Canyon Springs High School Thursday, Oct. 27 was detained by a deputy from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station, according to a social media release from the department.

Canyon Springs High School administrators received information that a student had brought a firearm onto campus Thursday morning. School administrators immediately notified their assigned School Resource Officer, who tracked down and contacted the student.

During a subsequent search, the School Resource Officer located a BB gun in the student’s backpack, according to the press release. State law prohibits weapons of any type on school grounds and these laws are strictly enforced, according to a release about the incident.

The student’s identity and age have not been released because the subject is a minor.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

Trevor Montgomery spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg in an off-duty accident.

Trevor has been married for more than 26 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 12 – soon to be 13 – grandchildren.
