TEMECULA – Parolee at large arrested after extensive search

TEMECULA – Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Temecula Police Station arrested a parolee at large in the 43200 block of Matera Court in Temecula Oct. 26, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Robert Christolon.

Deputies responded to the 43900 block of Larino Court, Temecula, regarding a parolee at large just before 11 a.m. Michael Shane Smith, 38, of Temecula, had evaded deputies the night before and was reported to be back in the area, according to Christolon.

“After an extensive search of the neighborhood, and with the help of police canines, officers located Mr. Smith in an attic of a vacant home and took him into custody,” Christolon explained.

Smith was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on a felony parole violation warrant, as well as a misdemeanor warrant for violating a court order.

A jail record search revealed Smith was arrested at about 5:50 p.m., nearly seven hours after deputies first responded to the area. He was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, violation of a domestic violence related restraining order, disobeying a court order and violation of state parole. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be seen at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta Friday, Oct. 28.
