EAST HEMET – Reports of shots fired in the 40500 block of Poppy Drive near Girard Street brought deputies and other sheriff’s officials Saturday, Nov. 5, a sheriff official confirmed Saturday evening.

The residence where the disturbance and reported shooting happened is between Yale and S. San Jacinto Streets in the unincorporated area of East Hemet.

“Nobody was injured due to the incident and nobody is in custody at this time,” Riverside County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Mike Vasquez said in a phone interview about the incident and subsequent investigation.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet/Valle Vista Station responded to the residence at about 3 p.m., after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a citizen reporting an argument between individuals with possible shots being fired, Vasquez explained. The suspect involved in the reported shooting had fled the area prior to the deputies’ arrival.

When they arrived, deputies located some of the people involved in the incident, according to Vasquez. They detained the subjects for further investigation.

“The investigation is ongoing and deputies are trying to work out the details regarding what occurred and who was involved,” Vasquez explained.

Nearly seven hours after the incident occurred, Poppy Drive remained cordoned off, while investigators and forensics technicians conducted an investigation into the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident or who witnessed the disturbance and reported shooting is encouraged to contact officials at the Hemet/Valle Vista Sheriff’s Station at (951) 791-3400.
